David J. Hess

David Hess is a member of the firm’s technology investment banking team. He has 25 years of experience assisting companies on a wide range of strategic matters.

Representative recent transactions include: $146 billion merger of Sprint (Independent Committee) and T-Mobile; $14 billion sale of Clearwire (Special Committee) to Sprint; separation of Xerox (Independent Committee) into two independent companies; $10 billion acquisition of Worldpay by Vantiv; $7.5 billion merger of Grubhub and Just Eat Takeaway.com; $6.5 billion sale of Solera (Special Committee) to Vista Equity; $5.3 billion sale of MICROS Systems to Oracle; $5.1 billion sale of West Corporation to Apollo; $4.1 billion sale of Perot Systems to Dell; $2.7 billion sale of Cision to Platinum Equity; $2.7 billion acquisition of TriZetto by Cognizant; $1.7 billion acquisition of MTS Systems by Amphenol; $1.4 billion sale of TripleLift to Vista Equity; $1.3 billion acquisition of Saba by Cornerstone OnDemand; $1.2 billion sale of Unisys U.S. Federal business to SAIC; and the $715 million acquisition of Arena Solutions by PTC.

Selected additional experience includes transactions announced by AT&T, Attachmate, CA Technologies, Cablevision, Comcast, Entrust, Genpact, Goldman Sachs, L-1 Identity Solutions, McGraw-Hill, Monster Worldwide, Openlink Financial, Priceline, RiskMetrics, Satyam, Send Word Now, SolarWinds, SonicWall, Sungard, and Witness Systems.

David has significant experience advising companies in their interactions with activist shareholders. Recent engagements include Cornerstone OnDemand (Praesidium); Cognizant (Elliott); and MICROS Systems (ValueAct).

Prior to joining Centerview in 2011, David spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs, most recently as a Managing Director with responsibility for the firm’s software and IT services investment banking practice. Mr. Hess began his career at Schroder & Co.

David received a B.S., magna cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is President of the Board of Trustees of the Abraham Joshua Heschel School and is a Board member of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Board member of Wharton’s McNulty Leadership Program and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He lives in New York City with his wife and three children.
